Comment: Cathedral Kul Sharif mosque in Kazan, located on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin. The construction of the temple was started in 1996 as a recreation of the legendary multi-minaret mosque of the capital of the Kazan khanate. The mosque was destroyed in October 1552 during the storming of Kazan by Ivan the terrible's troops.
The revived mosque is named after its last Imam, Syed Kul Sharif, one of the leaders of the defense of Kazan.
